Eduardo Bonnín Aguiló was a Spanish Catholic layman, born in 1917 in Palma de Mallorca, known as the main inspirer of the Cursillos de Cristiandad Movement. He dedicated his life to helping people encounter Christ in their daily lives.

Eduardo was characterized by his profound humility, his great capacity for listening, his love of personal freedom, and his passion for forming authentic friendships. He always sought to bring people closer to Christ through trust, respect, and understanding.

His deep concern about the disconnection of many young people from the faith led him to seek new methods of evangelization. From his observations, readings, and encounters, he conceived a brief, intense, and experiential way of presenting the Christian message, giving rise to the Cursillos.

The first Cursillo following Bonnín’s approach took place in August 1944 in Cala Figuera, Mallorca. However, the one officially considered the "first Cursillo" was held from January 7 to 10, 1949, at the Hermitage of San Honorato.

Humility, personal freedom, sincere friendship, and absolute respect for the dignity of every person were central values in his life and in his way of evangelizing.

Eduardo often described himself as “a Christian apprentice,” highlighting his continuous search, simplicity, and permanent openness to God's action in his life.

Although he never sought personal recognition, his intuition and work have had a global impact. The Cursillos Movement has spread to over 60 countries and has influenced the lives of millions of people, offering new paths of evangelization for laypeople.

Eduardo Bonnín passed away on February 6, 2008, in his hometown of Palma de Mallorca. He was buried in the atrium of the Capuchin church, as he had wished, leaving behind a legacy of faith, freedom, and friendship within the Church.
