On Friday, May 9, 2014, the inauguration of the street—or rather, the passage—named after our dear friend and founder of the Cursillos de Cristiandad Movement took place in Palma de Mallorca.
Eduardo was a person without a desire for prominence; he was not one to seek attention. That is why one might ask: Why a passage with his name? And why not a street?
A passage named after Eduardo is a way of remembering him in his hometown, a tribute to keep him present as part of the journey—our journey—the journey of those who, in the future, will discover that God loves them thanks to the Cursillos de Cristiandad Movement. It is a remembrance that encourages us to continue on this path, always unfinished, where we come and go, and where, even if we pass by countless times, we will see the same things with new eyes. A passage that leads to the bustling El Olivar Market, a place of hustle and bustle, buying and selling, full of life.
The Deputy Mayor of Culture and Sports, Mr. Fernando Gilet, made an insightful observation, pointing out the curiosity that this passage, previously unnamed, is located so close to where our beloved Eduardo now rests in peace. It is also near Capuchinos, where, in January 1949—when the provincial prison was temporarily located there—Eduardo Bonnín and Andrés Rullán witnessed the conversion of two prisoners before they were executed by garrote vil.
Perhaps from now on, we might experience a scene like this:
– Excuse me, would you be so kind as to tell me how to get to Eduardo Bonnín Passage?
– Ah, yes! The founder of the Cursillos de Cristiandad?
– Yes.
– Of course, no problem: Look, head towards Friendship Street, turn onto Joy Street, then you’ll reach Living Christ Square, normal and close… And with those directions, you’ll find the passage just a few meters away!
